Hon. Oke-Aare Aina, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Oluyole Local Government and one of the national women leaders of the party, has affirmed that democracy is the power of the people, saying that it must be protected.

She made this known in her goodwill message to Nigerians as Nigeria celebrates this year's Democracy Day, a day commemorated to remember the freest and fairest election in Nigeria, as claimed, on June 12, 1993, which saw the victory of Chief Moshood Abiola at the presidential poll.

Hon. Oke-Aare Aina, popularly known as JEGA, stated that democracy is the power given to the people to decide their destiny and to prevent tyranny in government. She asserted that the will of the majority must always prevail if Nigeria wants an all-inclusive society that flourishes on the all-round contributions of the people.

“As an advocate of good governance and democracy, I strongly believe that democracy is the power of the people. It gives the people the ultimate right to choose their leaders and control their destinies regarding those who represent them. Anywhere the will of the masses is supreme, there will be an all-inclusive government, all-round growth, and establishment of peace and unity. We must protect our democracy,” she stated.

However, Hon. Oke-Aare Aina reaffirmed her commitment to promoting and ensuring good governance as a viable measure of sustaining the nation's democracy. She further stated she is on the go to bring good representation to Oluyole Local Government Constituency in 2027 if she is elected.

The chieftain said, “Like before, I have an unwavering commitment to promoting and ensuring good governance. I believe that good representation is the best way a leader can promote democracy. A leader should not betray the trust people have in them. Right now, Oluyole Local Government Constituency is my focus. I plan to bring good leadership that fosters inclusivity and progress.”

Nonetheless, she praised the national heroes who fought for the struggle of democracy which the citizens now enjoy, stating that the heroes are worth celebrating and immoralising as they fought to have a society where no man is oppressed
