In the wake of the death of former President Muhammodu Buhari, Hon. Oke-Aare Aina, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oluyole Local Government, has joined other Nigerians to pay tribute to the late president, calling him a democrat who was misunderstood.

The former president of Nigeria died on Sunday in London after suffering from leukaemia as reported by his spokesman, Garba Sheu. The two-time president ruled Nigeria in 1983 to 1985 and 2015 to 2023.

Hon. Oke-Aare Aina highlighted the generosity and forgiving heart of the late president. She said that he left everybody to their conscience and faced the consequences of their actions’.

She affirmed that she was privileged to witness the two times of Late President Buhari’s leadership, for which she was grateful.

“I am privileged to have the two times of your leadership. The first was grossly misunderstood by the generation you came to save. The second time, things have gone so bad beyond your heart of sincerity. You fulfilled your dream of being a democrat after being misunderstood,” she stated.

Hon. Aina wished the president a peaceful rest away from the sorrow of life. She said that she wept bitterly immediately when Buhari became the president of Nigeria believing that the former president would make necessary changes in the country's public affairs. However, she stated that her hope was dashed as a result of his illness in the ninth month of his tenure.

“The day you became President I wept so deeply believing you are coming to right so many wrongs, until you almost lost your life in 9 months.”
